Guided Self-Help

If, after discussion with you, we think you could benefit from a short period of help and support, you will work with one of our specially trained staff, known as a Psychological Wellbeing Practitioner (PWP). They are trained to help you better understand your problems and learn how to control your symptoms. They can also signpost to other services who can support you. You can work with a PWP over the telephone or face to face and they can provide 6 – 8 sessions of guided self-help, which is based on Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) principles. These sessions can help you understand your symptoms, identify what is keeping your problems going and learn how to break the cycle using self-help techniques. A PWP will introduce self-help materials and resources and help you make positive changes to the way you think and act.

SilverCloud

PWPs can also support you in the use of our computerised CBT programme, SilverCloud. This programme offers personalised modules to help people experiencing a wide range of problems, including depression, social anxiety, health anxiety, generalised anxiety disorder and obsessive compulsive disorder (OCD). Once registered, you can complete modules chosen by your own supporting PWP at your own pace, where and when it suits you. You’ll also have access to a variety of tools that help you with setting goals, problem solving and other practical life skills.

Stress Control Course

The Stress Control Course is a psychoeducational course, which means that it is delivered in a lecture-style; you will not be asked to participate or speak about your own difficulties during these sessions. You are welcome to bring someone along with you to this course. The PWPs will provide information on how stress can affect the body, our thoughts and our actions, and then teach you self-help techniques so that you can take control of your own stress.

The Stress Control course takes place over six sessions, which look at:

  • Information about stress
  • Controlling your body: relaxation, exercise
  • Controlling your thoughts: learn to think your way out of stress
  • Controlling your actions: boost self confidence
  • Controlling panic
  • Controlling sleep problems; controlling your future

Our stress course is now online on a secure platform.  please  speak to the practitioner during your assessment or call our admin for further details 01484 343700
